Overview

Wheata flour mills represents a major part of the group. High quality wheat is imported from the top global producers stored at its strategic terminal in Port Sudan before being transported to Khartoum where it is milled within Wheata's state of the art facilities. Wheata is one of the largest flour mills in the region with a current capacity of 1750 tons per day and is currently undergoing a massive expansion. The company plays a dynamic role in supplying the community with wheat flour which is a major food commodity in Sudan. All efforts are employed to maintain its supply to the community, hence assisting in the achievement of food security at the national and household levels.

At Wheata we believe that safe food is a non-negotiable human right and those fundamentals are instilled throughout all our activities. Corresponding with this concern we scientifically planned and implemented a Food Safety Management System in compliance with the international standard ISO 22000.
As of July 2009 Wheata is proud to be the first food manufacturing company in Sudan to achieve an ISO 22000 certification.




THE HEALTH OF THE SUDANESE COMMUNITY IS OUR PRIORITY:

Since December 2005 Wheata has both voluntarily and uniquely adopted the practice of fortification of wheat flour by Iron and Folic Acid (Vitamin B.9). This is a significant public health strategy which we are pleased to lead. Fortification of flour by Iron contributes to decreasing the occurrence of Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) and Folic Acid helps prevent Spina Bifida, a neural tube birth defect. It is highly recommended that females of the child-bearing age take sufficient quantities of Folic Acid before and during pregnancy.
